Diabetes diabetes information

The onset of the disease is most mon in middle age and later life. The fraction of type 1 in other parts of the world differs; this is likely due to both differences in the rate of type 1 and differences in the rate of other types, most prominently type 2.

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is presently of unknown etiology (ie, origin). In 1675 Thomas Willis added mellitus from the Latin word meaning a sweet taste. The autoimmune attack may be triggered by reaction to an infection, for example by one of the viruses of the Coxsackie virus family. Stem cell research has also been suggested as a potential avenue for a cure since it may permit the regrowth of islet cells which are geically part of the treated individual, thus eliminating the need for immuno-suppressants.

Type 1 diabetes appears to be triggered by some (mainly viral) infections, or in a less mon group, by stress or environmental factors (such as exposure to certain chemicals or drugs).

In addition, a small proportion of Type 1 cases have the hereditary condition maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY) which can also be confused with Type 2.

Type 1 diabetes appears to be triggered by some (mainly viral) infections, or in a less mon group, by stress or environmental factors (such as exposure to certain chemicals or drugs).

Other pancreatic problems, including trauma, pancreatitis, or tumors (either malignant or benign), can also lead to loss of insulin production. Many patients with type 2 diabetes will progress to insulin therapy to control of blood glucose levels, but these patients are still type 2 diabetics. Diabetes diabetes information.

This is a more plex problem than type 1, but is sometimes easier to treat, especially in the initial years when insulin is often still being produced internally.

Cancer survivors who received allogenic Hematopoeitic Cell Transplantation (HCT) are 3.65 times more likely to report type 2 diabetes than their siblings.

In severe cases perinatal death may occur, most monly as a result of poor placental profusion due to vascular impairment. The principal treatment of type 1 diabetes, even from the earliest stages, is replacement of insulin. Diabetes diabetes information.
